The Deliberating Practice podcast is aimed at bringing a critical, deconstructionist lens to the practice of counselling and psychotherapy. Rather than being yet another podcast that offers tips, tools and tricks for therapists or clients, Deliberating Practice takes aim at broad technical, ethical and political issues within the world of psychotherapy and counselling.

Deliberating Practice was born out of a desire to make counselling and psychotherapy better. We both feel strongly that the practice of psychotherapy – through its intersection with free market capitalism, neo-liberal ideology, and the emerging force of technocracy – runs the risk of losing its essential humanitarian spirit. Each episode we focus on a broad topic in the field of counselling and psychotherapy, and draw on literature from Humanistic Psychotherapy, Existential Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis, Critical Psychotherapy, and Critical Theory to expand the discussion beyond the status quo.
Richard and Glenn discuss the work of critical psychotherapist Del Loewenthal and topics of concern that extend from his theorizing.

I'm Glenn, a practicing counsellor/psychotherapist in Victoria, BC. I completed his mastersdegree in counselling at the University of Northern British Columbia in 2022. I work full time at the BC Cancer Agency in Victoria. I first became interested in psychotherapy as a teenager after receiving psychological support. I have interests in Psychoanalysis, Existential Psychotherapy, Humanistic Psychotherapy, and the intersection of psychotherapy and spirituality. For me, Deliberating Practice is a place to grapple with important issues in the world of contemporary counselling and psychotherapy.
